Conferencing – What We’re All About
Workplace Conferencing is a process that brings together staff in conflictual
situations, along with others affected by the ensuing relationship imbalances.
Through a guided process which involves openness, honesty and behavioural change,
Workplace Conference can turn a sticky situation into a workable one.
Our process can restore a harmonious atmosphere to a workplace that just doesn’t
feel right. This happens through a culture shift by the key parties previously
causing an awkward working environment, once they’ve gone through our
process.
Workplace Conference has grown out of the vision of Fiona Landon – a multi-talented
individual with a passion for restoring relationships and imbalances.
With a background in counseling, social services and corporate work settings,
Fiona quickly gained her vision for Workplace Conferencing after doing a pilot
programme in restorative justice, followed by a training course in corporate
restorative justice processes in September 2001.
Fiona was excited about the possibilities of taking the highly successful techniques
of restorative justice into New Zealand workplaces. After four years working
in restorative justice situations, where she facilitated meetings between victims,
offenders and their support people, she had witnessed many positive changes.
She says: “As people chose to confront the impacts of their behaviour,
and to talk through the effects of their offending, positive change started
to happen. Victims and offenders would consider ways of repairing the harm and
restoring the balance. Statistics report a high level of satisfaction with restorative
justice processes, as it enables restitution and the ability to deal with issues
before moving on.”
